Working hours in a month
A month has between 20 and 23 weekdays, so a 40-hour schedule gives 160 to 184 hours a month before holidays. That spread is why "hours per month" is a rough figure: payroll and HR usually quote the yearly average instead, 2,080 ÷ 12 = 173.33 hours for full time. This calculator gives the exact count for the month and year you choose and lists every month of that year.
Worked example (pre-filled). October 2026 has 31 days, of which 22 are Monday to Friday. At 8 hours a day with no holidays that is 176 working hours. Over the whole of 2026 there are 261 weekdays, or 2,088 hours at 8 a day.
Enter the number of company holidays or planned days off to subtract them. Which holidays are paid is up to the employer: Georgia does not require private employers to give paid holidays (Georgia DOL). - Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. Shift schedules that include weekends should use the time card or biweekly calculators instead.
