Converting salary and hourly pay
The standard conversion assumes 2,080 paid hours a year: 40 hours a week for 52 weeks. Salary ÷ 2,080 is the hourly rate; hourly × 2,080 is the salary. The quick mental version is to double the hourly rate and add three zeros ($25 an hour is about $50,000), which runs 4% low. If you work 37.5 hours, or are paid for 50 weeks, change the fields and the conversion follows.
Worked example (pre-filled). A $62,000.00 salary over 40 hours × 52 weeks (2,080 hours) is $29.81 an hour, $1,192.31 a week, $2,384.62 per biweekly paycheck, $2,583.33 per semi-monthly paycheck and $5,166.67 a month, all before tax. Flip the direction to turn an hourly wage into a salary.
These are gross figures. What actually arrives depends on federal and Georgia withholding, FICA and deductions; each salary from $20,000 to $250,000 has a page with 2026 take-home pay (see the salary index) and each wage from $8 to $75 is on the hourly index. Salaried exempt employees are not paid overtime, so a salary that routinely needs 50 hours is worth less per hour worked than the conversion suggests; the salary-to-hourly guide goes into that.
Formula and assumptions
hourly = salary ÷ hours per year; salary = hourly × hours per year
weekly = salary ÷ weeks; biweekly = salary ÷ 26; semi-monthly = salary ÷ 24; monthly = salary ÷ 12
- Gross pay only; no overtime, bonuses or unpaid time.
- The daily figure assumes five working days a week.
